The MCP is  a TTL to Cmos driver IC. No code is necessary. It is needed to boost the 5 volt signal to 10 volts to drive the CMOS driver. I got several off e-bay at a fairly reasonable price. I will e-mail you the file as it is too big to post here

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.

To those that are interested in coil parameters: Coplanar style - 2 coils only.
Primary: 25 turns #22 or #21 enamel magnet wire. 8 inch outside diameter.
Secondary: 35 Turns #22 or #21 enamel magnet wire.  6 inch outside diameter.
390µh to 400µh should be your range. Be sure coils are bound tightly and non movable in your form. No shielding is needed.
Each coil must be slightly over dampened separately. Primary first. Use a good scope for this. And wire the coils so both spikes have positive polarity.
See the scope diagrams in the attachments. You will notice the level transformation that takes place. Primary is a +12 volt level dropping to .8v before going to the spike, and the secondary is a ground signal going to -10.4v before going to the spike. That is how the 2 1N4148 diodes remove the drive signal. The change in the width of the spike near the base is what we need to provide our ferrous/non-ferrous determination.
With the 4% duty cycle the mosfet is sucking about 3 amps so be sure to heat sink it.

Just a question on the wire measurement system.
is it #21 or #22 of AWG? SWG? or BWG?
you can download a wire dimensions chart from

As Carl is in the states I would hazard a guess its American wire gauge (AWG), also known as the Brown & Sharpe wire gauge,

That would be AWG #22 .0254 inch diameter (0.64516 mm). AWG 21 can be used also
