 Idiot Detecting
A "tidy bench" is the sign of a sick mind.....besides, if I cleaned it up, I couldn't find anything....

I like to build "manhattan style" (superglue cktboard stock on a base and go from there.)

Thanks for the reply, I've wondered if anyone looked at these things....

Well it was read 64 times but I don't know if a lot of people know what you are talking about when you say the pulse one you should have said Gary's pulse one as lot's of folks know Gary I'm sure that you would have had more responses. I was going to build the pulse two but never got round to it ....now I remember it was because of one of the regulators that I could not find I think that I have one now that I took off from a decoder or something like that. Did you do some testing yet?

your correct,,,,i should have given the designer credit but didn't...My apology to Gary..

No testing yet....I've been busy with other events.....(ham radio stuff)

the coil measures 591uh, it is embedded in "hot glue" to protect it. I also found that using #30 enamel coated wire can be difficult to manage towards the end. So I used drops of instant glue to keep the final windings(30T) down, then rolled it all into the slot and applied the hot glue. A hot air gun when your finished with the hot glue, helps to smooth out the "blobs" of hot glue to make it look nicer, and run the glue evenly around the circle.

I ordered IC1, IC2 and Q1...it took some time for them to arrive here but now Im back into it. I work slowly....not because I want to but it seems to be my speed lately..I will make the case for the circuit board from circuit board stock. Its light, and I haven't found a suitable enclosure that I like.

Thanks for the reply...I will stay in touch...

Why did you not make a flat coil?

Huh?  This is my first attempt at building a metal detector.....

By a "flat coil," I assume you mean that the windings would be in a flat plane around the circ. of the foot. I didn't do that...the coil is not scramble wound, I tried to keep it in about 4 layers x 8 turns....That was what a 1/2" router cut slot, 3/8 inch deep would handle with #30 wire.

Hi Herbert

I'm eager to know what will the result be with that coil of yours when do you expect to start doing some testing?
Here is a pic of a test that I did on making a flat coil.

Regards Xavier
