Sounds good to me.  I like doing the Build in stages thing.   I always mess something up some how some way. :Smiley

As I understand it, the Barricuda is hotter on gold due to the faster sample time.   I think it also has a Adjustment on the sample to correct for ground conditions.   Look them up.

Hadn't realised this thread had more replies - I just stopped by to mention a modification I've made which has hopefully fixed my original problem. I've been thinking about the over-voltage issue and it suddenly occurred to me that a 555-based morse practise oscillator I built many years ago had a volume control on it, so I just connected a 1K pot across from the output to -ve and connected the new output from the wiper to where pin 3 used to connect to . . . Basically, it's just a potential divider which allows me to vary the signal voltage to the transistor. I've set it to 90mV (1% battery voltage as per the article) and have my fingers firmly crossed . . . May even be useful in tuning the circuit later?

@ 6666 - I contacted Andy at Silverdog to ask whether the Surf kit came with construction notes, as I like to do things in bite-sized chunks. His reply said, 'sorry it doesn't come with a guide, I just supply whatever has been released on geotech it is pretty easy though, baracuda maybe even more so . . . '

You can see that it wasn't a recommendation as such - I'd been looking at the two detectors and had found more information on constructing the Baracuda than the Surf so decided to go with that.

Speaking of which, the kit arrived a couple of days ago and I'm very pleased with the quality of the PCB and his service in general. I'll make a start when it's had time to mature a bit . . .  Wink

I'm keen to get going, but I'm in the middle of this Sandbanks build just now so I'll see if I can get it finished before I start anything else.

Yep, SilverDogs kits are a great value for the money.   Don't know how he does it so cheap.     Cheesy
