Go Up Go Down

I thought I wanted to take the time and design a metal detector. Taking care of my mother-in-law takes priority. So I broke down and ordered a Surf Pi 1.2. I think it will be a fun build. I am confused thou. I have seen so many variations of coils (speaker wire, 22 guage wrap, basket weave, etc.) that I don't really know where to start Does anyone have any recommendations?

All the coils are experimental or Workable.  The best Like I use is the Original.

Have fun and don't fret!

Like most Surf Machines they have Limited Ground Balancing Abilities So they are best Suited to Beach Use, and the depth will Vary depending on the Mineralisation,

These are your Basic Basic PI detector ....    It all depends on your build, Set Up, and Coil.  Coil Size and build being the most determining depth.  How you set up the sample delay and sample time.   How fast your coil is.   Target type and size.

if building the surf pi is your hobby then a google search will reveal lots of coils you can build, from a simple mono loop to a twin loop dd style coil.
the different types have different uses, and also differing levels of skill required to build them.

if you are building a detector to use seriously as a detector, then i recommend buying a genuine surf coil, they can be found cheap second hand all over the net, in fact i dont suppose they are that expensive to buy new, building and sealing a good coil is the hardest part.
genuine coils will increase your chances of success, as i said it depends if building or detecting is your hobby.
