I forgot to mention that larger coils search deeper, but may miss smaller objects, basically you need then to have two coils that you can swap when needed. A small one and a large one. By small say around 20cm and by large say around 30cm.....but they can be even larger if searching for big pieces of metal, very deep though I have never built a Surf PI myself......it may not be 100% true.....

Also, do not forget that you need to shield the coils correctly for a good working PI detector, especially where ground is mineralized.

There is a blog on the forum that I mentioned for coil construction, read, read and read......otherwise your detector will not work as well with a badly made coil.....the work time is as good as the same for a good or a bad coil!!! Costs too.......

Regards

Andy
