The surf PI is one of the Simplest of Simple PI detectors.  Sort of like the Sand banks without the complicated power system.  If you want a machine with more options build the HAMMER HEAD.  You can adjust just about every aspect on that machine.

thanks vasileios
i just finished my surf pi build,i used a tiny tweeter speaker i had around to test the circuit, and i noticed the volume was very low
so i put the output to a mono headphone jack.
i think i can use your mod mounted in a tiny enclosure with a very small pcb speaker and a headphone plug to hold in on the circuit box.and have the option of headphones or external speaker.

A LM386 works more then well.  You can just put a piggy back board to the side .

yeah thats ok-except where do those two blue wires go.
with vasileios mod,you just need a pnp and a resitor and speaker mounted into a small enclosure with the headphone plug holding it onto the detector-no need to power another circuit.
vasileios,i hope you dont mind me expounding on your idea!

This is the proper way to make an amp, Blue wires are the input red and black are power and the other two go to the speaker. If I were you I'd put the extra transistor.
