Yes but I don't have a lazer printer nor a photocopier how ever monochrome lazer printers a becoming quite cheep so perhaps I should look into it. What I will do is have a look at the price of the transfer compare that to the Positive 20 mind you the +20 is not so easy to use and you have to let it dry for about 4 hours in summer probably 24 in winter and I use the sun as my source of UV so no board making at night for me Grin

I think it was GoldDigger1950 that gave an admonition about Brother laser printer toner requiring mega heat to do the dry transfer methold, be it on vellum or press-n-peel.  I second that admonition I have tried both ways and have had very negative results.

Well, I don't have a Brother Laser, I use an HP Color Laserjet 2605dn.   Perhaps it uses something different.  I think since it's HP they have their own toner.  One way or the other, I will try it and see what happens.  No serious loss.  If it works, great, if not, I've lost not much more than a couple $$$ with the film and some time.  Worth a try for me.  Appreciate the data point.  If it doesn't work, I consider myself warned.  !!!

Jiminy:

You probably won't have any problems with the HP, it's just the Brother toner that GD1950 remarked about.  Being a cheapskate when the factory cartridge goes flat I'll in all likelyhood get a non-OEM cartridge and maybe it's toner will melt at a lower temp.  I'll give it a try when that day rolls around.

Take care,
Dennis

Well for the moment I will stick with the +20 the heat transfer will not work out cheaper in fact it may even be more expensive for me over here. In the US you pay $1.65 (pack of 20 for $33.00) per sheet we pay $3.42 so unless I can get it direct from the US it will not be worth my while. And there is also the fact that I may get a lazer printer with bad toner that would be just my luck  Grin

Hi Guys,

I've had more success with the Press-n-peel when I took it to a commercial copy center than when I used my own laser printer.  But more important than the source of the toner, I found that proper preparation of the copper clad board is vital.  I use steel wool to scratch up the surface JUST before I iron the traces.  I am also sure that the edges have no burrs and that there is no skin oil present.  Quenching the board is also important.

Hope this helps!

Hi Magnetman

What do you mean by Quenching? I found that when I work on the prep of the board before spraying on the +20 if I do not wear latex gloves I still have problems I clean the board with steel wool then finish it of with acetone and only then do I get a good result so I can imagine that with the Press and Peel if the board is not absolutely clean you would pick up problems too.

Xavier,

That certainly is an ouch in the wallet, I'm surprised some enterprising soul in your neck of the woods hasn't come up with something similar or at least sought a licence to manufacture from the manfacturer.  That would be a boon the amatuer electronics types and put some bucks in their pocket at the same time.

Take care,
Dennis

Xavier-

I quench the board by running it under cold water after the traces are ironed onto the board.  If you let the board cool too slowly the toner often pulls off the copper.
