OK yes I was not thinking about him using his detector but more in the line of what he could get to be able to locate the object with the least expense. There is one crazy thing that I have seen done in Poland. The guys go metal detecting on the lake with a big magnet and they actually do pull out a lot of stuff from the war. Now unless the object in question is made of non ferrous metal it could be a way round his problem for the time being mind you it would be a slow process.

I've seen guys find large underwater metal objects with a damped compass using a wooden boat. Fascinating work.

 I have a dipping compass and a detailed fish finder. 

 Ever since I got the detector kit in, I've been having intermittent problems with it so I can't test the coil yet.  I pulled the IC chips and found 2 of the IC holders were not clamping down on the pins so I will have to replace them.  That should fix the problem.

Here is a picture of the coil laying on the ground.  That is a Lincoln Town car in the background.

The Delta Pulse will not drive a coil that large. "You need a bigger boat," so to speak. What are your coil specifications? What size wire? How many turns? What is the diameter of the coil? How far apart are the sides when you squish it and deform it from a circle?

Any engineer will tell you that you design the detector to match the coil not the other way around.
