A had a coil off an old "autopulse1" P.I. detector (9") so decided to try it....
Works perfectly!!!  Cheesy Cheesy
Don't know how many turns of wire it is but it measures out at 235uH if that helps!

For those that don't have a way to measure uH for the value of 235uH what is the resistance value for the factory coil.

2 ohms exactly - but that won't help.
You NEED to measure the inductance.
I put a post on here recently that linked to a VERY simple circuit to convert any multimeter to read inductance.

The specification calls for a 350uh coil.

You are right GD.
But mine seems to work really nicely with 235.
It's picking up a 2p coin at nearly 9.5 inches.
Do you think the 350uH coil would give more depth?
If so, I'll give it a go....

Tough question, mate. I didn't run the math on the coil in the schematic to verify its value. I just made it known because this was the second time it was asked.

I sent Xavier a PM on how to build a field strength tester for coils. I think I'll go to my out basket in the morning and start a new post about that. It's cheap. If you're lucky, it's even free.

Eugene,
Great! I saw that detr on Geotech and liked it, but not the layout If you want a really good PCB package try the Express PCB. It is free and they have a great deal on 3 proto boards for about $50. I have used them and they are nice PCBs.

hi eugene.billg here.i would like the schematic also.post it in pdf format,it will be easer for everyone to print .i am a retired electronic eng and build verious electronic things,i designed a metal det 40 yrs ago.that would indicate ferious and non ferious types of metal.it used a 0 center meter. am still working on stability though as it tends to drift a little.it uses a phase lock loop.i'm thinking about using xtal controll and am working on a new circuit. have a great day.bil;lg

Bill,

It's already posted as an attachment in PDF to one of the messages in this thread. Also, when you get 5 posts, you can download the project files from the download area.

Hi,
Mine's working fine although....
I didn't have any quarter watt 220k resistors ..... but hundreds of eighth watt.
So I used the eighth watt....
They seem o.k. and don't seem to have got warm... so I guess it'll be o.k. just a little worried about long term?
Also used an 1n4006 instead of the 4001 but that seems o.k. too...... comments?
