Hi!

I?ve built the surf 1.2. I think, it is a good idea that metal detector in a PVC tube! I have some problem. I use e litle power supply (it was tested more projekt) but with  9V (exactly 8,8V) my surfmaster didnt work. Specifically the 4093 didn?t got good level input. Then  I believed the 7660 original circuit (frekvency for the 555 3pin) is right and I started use it.

So the surf started the work, but sensitivity was very minimal and signal weak. I changed the power for 11,5V and it work better (but not perfect). It is normal? I think surfmaster work with 3x9V battery. On the schematic are 9-12V power.

Can you help me? Can I use only 9V?

Hello Yowie and Welcome to Thunting.com . Whites designed this surfmaster PI to run at "12 volts" using 8 AA batteries or a 10 cell nicad rechargeable not 9 volts . If you use the correct supply voltage it will speed up your repair time . Check your variable resistors and or potentiometers and IC [u4]............Best Regards...........Eugene

Thanks!

The 9V battery was some mistake way.

With 12V power is goingto be okay.

Thank You very much!

Hey Yowie can you tell us what kind of results (depth etc) you are getting from the 12 volt setup? Also curious about the size wire and number of turns on your coil.

Ok! But I am still working on it. It is my 2. PI projects. This construction is very sensitive for coil and cable. So I have to made a coil.

Anyway, I built a fisher1266, but coil was buy.

The another PI project was only a try of PI technology, it work with simple 25-30 turns. I attached it. I will try it with surf coil?

I think coil for surfmaster 26turns of t6he 3,5CuZZ, D=20mm and I use RG58 cable. Is it good idea? I will write my experience.

Surf is a very usable pretty detector, with clear signal. It?s sensitivity good for coins and not too sensitive for little iron. Fisher 1266 detect many miniature iron Undecided

I use 1m Rg58 (old) and 23 turns 0,4mm CuZZ, 20cm coil without shield for probe.

1euro 22-23cm
1euro cent 14-15 cm

I think probably this sensitivity is not the maximum. I changed the damping resistor for 200ohm, but I don?t see modification. I going to make some coils for more sensitivity and maybe possible to grow up the power of fet. My oscilloscope is a old model, I measure about 200-240V impulses.

It is very good detector!  Great

I like the idea of this design for a pinpointer - what would be the performance and best coil design of no more than 2"  - I am aiming for detection fo small coins of at least 2"

Is this possible ? , should I use a ferrite rod wound coil ?  any help appreciated
