eugene, this is ram a new member yet, im building the xr71 using your pcb attached in your post. can i used the mylar capacitors? w/c is only the available type in my town. im in the very remote town even the double sided pcb have no available, im using single sided board i make two boards then glue together my place is very poor. . .

Hello Ram and Welcome to Thunting.com . Yes you can use mylar capacitors , especially if they have a "J" mark on them , that means they have a [+,-] 5% tolerance . The best to use are polystyrene "yellow rectangular" capacitors . The worst are ceramic discs with a tolerance of over [+,-] 20 % . I attached some reference charts for you and anyone who needs them ..................Best Regards........Eugene

Hello Housein . Inside the zip folder labeled sniffer is the Sprint PCB software which has the xr71 circuit board layout/specs/dimensions . You can send it to a circuit board company and have one made [not very expensive] or buy a pcb circuit board making kit , if you have a laser printer , spare time and [more work] !! . Here are 3 of the sprint photos , top , bottom and comp. of pcb.....If you want sprint software I can e-mail it to you......Best Regards and have fun !!.........Eugene

xr71 guys;
I have figured out the problem with this machine:

IT IS TOO COMPLEX!

Dont know how well I am getting through.... I have a satellite link and last night we had a huge T-storm, leaving heavy heavy overcast with a forecast of 4 inches rain.... hvy overcast slows my internet down too much, so it drops out, occasionally.

Should wash out some new goodies for THunters, locally.... now where did I put those new batteries?

Eugene52;
Sorry to dash cold water, but I dont NEED the tech talk to confuse me... and I tossed the idea of P.I, about 10 years ago. Quasar or Magenta Electronics, in the UK have a simple P.I kit for sale. I asked them how it worked, and the theory, its OK, needs some augmentation, but it was something I just didnt want to get into..... then. I have some ideas I wont leak, on this forum, as I am paranoid by experience. (No offence guys.) The ideas, if workable, could improve P.I..... needs expirimentation, as it goes into an area that sends many Thers into a frenzy.....

I have built VLFs and BFOs and built an early crystal controlled BFO, in the 60s,worked fine, I was heading toward phase detection but had to dump the entire project when the old lady threatened me with abandonment.... It was her-or-it, but she has been gone for 38 years so I can dabble all I want, now, heh, heh. So I havnt been back to building locators because it holds so much (mental) baggage. (Good thing there was no internet and TH forums, then, or I might be dead, now!)

If you cant laugh at life, you have to cvry... I would rather laugh.

Brian AKA goldigger
