Discrimination is not 100% sure (even in the VLF) in the whole of its depth. It is best to dig every signal, because who knows what can be missed ...

Dr. Jare is correct, bur Homefire is wrong, because Surf PI has DISCRIM potentiometer. That means once upon a time its designer discriminated with it. Now something is changed and it can not discriminate. It remains we to figure out why this happens. Then the problem will be solved. Wink

Mikebg.

It's Not Discrimination, it's Elimination.

Every thing below the Timing setting of the sample is Eliminated.

You can NOT find Gold while Doing away with Pull Tabs/ Iron and the like.

If you Really want a Learning Platform and Variable Detector look at the HammerHead by Carl.  I think Silverdog does that one to.

That one you can adjust just about any and all aspects of a PI to be had.

Pulse Timing.

Tx Pules width.

Sample Time.

Sample Time Width.

Sample Time Slot is the key.

Like GD said, it's a complex thing.

Done right you may be able to get this one to look at certain slots of time an do TRUE discrimination.

Drop out the Iron while still seeing the Gold Nuggets and Rings.

I'm to old fashioned to do the PIC thing.

This could be done with selected timing sets and some smarts.

in my own test for effective discrimination on pi. i found out it's useless.

mixed metal in one hole. the result is larger size metal will be detected.

actually it can't discriminate. but, in separate holes discrimination will function but it's useless same pi with no discriminator can detect the metal.maybe discrimination will be effective if the pi have a visual analyzer screen to visually analyzed the incoming signals.

ram,

Visual discrimination could be applied to each PI with the help of Handheld Oscilloscope. The problem would be the cost of purchase Handheld Oscilloscope with efficiency in use.

Dr. Jare, there is more cheap solution - bicolor LED or one green and one red LED. Wink
It is used in Pulse Star.

Hi mikebg. "Pulse Star" with two LED, "BeachHunter 300" with three LED (picture below)... Handheld oscilloscope can be connected to each PI (Barracuda,Surf ...) no modifications of the same. Oscilloscope provides a broader analysis of the incoming signal.
