Go Up Go Down

Hi all. I'm a newbie here. Just done the Simple PI comprehensive tour. It seems to me that the pirate/similar design would be best done with the 5k(?) pot on R1, giving voltage and therefore timing adjustment in this design. But that in turn throws other settings out, calling then for other R and C adjustments, and  coil values. From what I've gleaned this will be a good starter project for me, with much scope for experimentation. I have about 8 slightly differing and corrected schematics/boards downloaded, plus a DD schematic. I intend to make a fast coil and work back from there with only an LCR meter and MM with frequency. I'll use pots for R's on a breadboard with a handful of caps and alternate ICs.
Hoping to make something that will see small gold.
Does anyone think this can be done with moderate success?

Well, I made it. And it works. I compared the 6666 circuit, the original, and a couple of others. I put a 5K pot on the 555 and a 50k pot and 47K between the stages of a TL072. Coil is 3 rounds of Cat5 network cable, strands seriesed,  6 inch ID, twisted. After binding it came out at 500uH. I inadvertantly made a very fast coil- it picks up 2 grams of flour gold at 3 inches when I put it on my Surf Pro DD.

Tried to post pics, but won't let me.
Sorry if this is considered "bumping" an old topic, but this is my first complete PI build from etch to working machine, and for it's simplicity I am very pleased with its performance.

Here it is. R1 is seriesed with a 5K pot. I was unsure if R7 was meant to be 1/2 w, which I don't have yet, so I replaced it with 2x 1/4w 820R for 410 ohms resistance. I didn't have TL082, so TL072 was used. R18 was 220 instead of 240.
Many thanks to Violin at Newhobby.eu/en for this version. He has some very cheap assembled boards there with pre-made coils. I have the NH-5 coming, but I think that and the NH-6/Pirate he is not making any more.
I used his pcb trace, but I won't publish that, as it may be his original- there are many here to choose from anyway. I intend to do a DD version as posted previously here.
For lower inductance coils and pinpointers/ferrite it may be neccessary to reduce R1. A 450uH wound ferrite produced a constant tone, and my 350uH coils also. I am unsure if these will be more or less sensitive.

OK.I will try to post some re-sizes pictures here- The pcb and the near-finished detector. Thank you for the re-sizing tool- it seems to work OK.
