hello

i am looking in to it now--i can also see on pictures that you use ceramic cap instead of mf polyester caps  only 15pf and 47 pf in ceramic
but mesure all zener diodes around irf740 and your 9.1v diode ..all components around lm556
tryed change lm556 ?it is in controll of charging led also..
mesure bc557 transistor close to 9.1 v diode.
was your irf740 new or used when you mounted it ?
and the 2.2k resistor by the irf 740 shall be 1w
do you have a better overlay picture of your deltapulse?

if all is ok you can replace the irf740 with irf 840.its the same and not that sensitive like 740.

irf 740 will get hot, if transmitter is not working check the transmitter if output is oscillating in squarewave 100-400hz, check the coil resistance, to low coil resistance lower than 1.5 ohm will cause irf740 to get hot. or the cable going to coil partially shorted.

ram,

can anyone pls help me?
my delta pulse/xr-71 is not working with any coil anymore.  it all started when i accidentaly plug in a different search coil bcoz of hurrying. my best coil set up was about a diameter of a basketball,it was 4 meters cat6 utp cable and it can detect a 5 peso coin at 13inches air and ground test. i accidentaly plug in a coil about/maybe 2 ohms resistance. does that means my irf740 need to be replaced?

Need to see if your IRF740 and it's driver are still alive.   Check the output to coil with a Multi meter in AC    WITHOUT COIL CONNECTED to see if it's firing.
