Bibique the Treasure Hunter

Located at strategic points, islands in the Indian Ocean, as the island of Reunion, home for centuries coveted secrets of filibusters from another era. Treasure hunters enthusiasts have embarked on their tracks from old maps of pirates. Among them, the so-called Bibique "holds a special place.

Who is Joseph Tipveau said "Bibique? A researcher treasures immoderate? A sorcerer? A madman? All meetings will still remember the moving story of this man, born in 1936 in St. Paul, who rolled his hump in every corner of the island until his death ten years ago, to find buried treasure. At that point he also became a legend.

A search of his ancestors, Bibique learned, reconstructing his family tree, a certain Adam James, pirate Holland, is one of his ancestors. His blood does one turn it is as if his passion for the stories of pirates who haunted since childhood finally found a rational explanation. Fever filibuster the itch and of course, because he is a descendant of pirates.

The breaking occurs in 1959. That year, a notable Reunion transmit a copy of a treasure map to pirate apprentice. The day, a gleam in his eyes, Bibique recites "the charter of piracy," his brother believed "possessed." Now the madness leaves him.

The apprentice pirate
Former footballer, Bibique took meetings with sports teams and cargo ships to learn the rudiments of navigation at sea to identify, make an alignment, take a bearing. With his apprenticeship, he hastens to mix with the fishermen of the island and their stories, and devotes his energy to penetrate the secrets of buccaneers who prowled around the Isle Bourbon - former name of the meeting - the 17th and 18th century. Bibique launches into detailed research. Next all the tracks, he harvests information sometimes oral, sometimes written, and will dust off the books of esoteric and piracy of Libraries Meeting. Sent to Paris for an internship sports instructor, he jumped at the chance to see prints, drawings, charts, the portolans preserved in the Bibliotheque Nationale de France, between November 1962 and June 1963. The researcher treasure meet a considerable amount of time passes and information on the course of pirates in the South. The quest begins in the books before you continue in the world.

Bibique naturally leads his eye on Olivier Le Vasseur, the terror of tropical waters, which is nicknamed "The Hawk" because of its speed to overwhelm opponents. With the ease of a snake in flight, the nozzle was looted and vulgarization of the islands off the route to India, raising its vessels in precious stones, rivers of diamonds, pearls, gold, fabric, sacred vessels and many other treasures. The hoard is well supplied now estimated at 4.5 billion euros, according to researchers and scientists. These same experts are also the location of spoils on the island of Reunion. That is enough to ignite the hopes of Bibique which launches headlong into this new adventure.

It is difficult to follow a treasure map without confronting superstitions, especially in Reunion where beliefs, spells, curses, voodoo is widespread. It is not uncommon to discover, at a bend in the road Tops, offerings to the Virgin, placed around makeshift altars. But more surprising still, the meetings do not hesitate to go to cemeteries to offer penny to lost souls: the murderers, witches, pirates do not rest in peace there. Through these offerings, day or night, these visitors or superstitious bold attempt to capture a bit of strength, power and secrecy of wandering souls.

The tomb of the nozzle, standing in the marine cemetery of St. Paul, is not forgotten. Flowers galore, smoke of incense, candles, coins: one says that those who make offerings covet his treasure. Bibique will turn to pray at the tomb of the pirate in the South Seas, to get in touch with the soul of the deceased, but in vain. The Treasure Hunt is trying for years to decipher the famous' cipher of pirate "that threw the nozzle to the crowd in 1731, the day he climbed the scaffold. For writing the message compared to the alphabet of the Templars, the researcher Reunion provides clues to the codes and identifying a possible location. Despite these few satisfactions he faces as failures. But it takes more to discourage our man.

The treasure of King
In the 1980s, Bibique focuses more on the documents he brought back from the Library of France, concerning the lands discovered by the Portuguese in the 16th century. He comes from a bottle into the sea and some of Pedro Vasquez who hides his booty on the island during a stop in 1582. It is a "treasure of the King." Bibique who obtains a copy of the will of Vasquez, thinks he can find the location of wealth through the drawings of rocks and a rocky seaside Everything suggests that this is the place called "the tip of the devil ", renowned for sharks which abound at the foot of small cliffs.

Concern of the P'tit Paris
Some former slum of "Little Paris", a neighborhood near the tip of the devil, to tell Bibique of strange facts. For over fifty years, they saw in the night to light candles, shadows, in full ritual slaughtering of animals and breaking the rock with picks, hammers and chisels. For treasure hunters, there is no doubt. The challenge is so great that it stops working for basaltic survey the beaches on the south coast, complete with his boots and pirate hat zebu. The man plot. Often wandering in the neighborhood of Little Paris, this arouses suspicion original inhabitants.

Eater "of z'enfants"
The superstitions surrounding the history of treasure hunters have failed to play a good trick to Bibique. The caption said: If you want to know the location of a treasure, he must free the soul of the damned by sacrificing a young child. In the area of the South, everybody knows the stories of abduction and sacrifice rumors rife about the account prowler. One day he walks, as usual, the scene of his research, the renowned "eater z'enfants is violently attacked by a group of individuals that threat. He avoided the worst thanks to a former football player who recognizes and helps them out. Some time later cleared of any suspicion, everything returns to normal. The treasure hunter can again focus on its activities.

In 1985, the mayor formally authorizes the adventurer to continue his excavations on the south coast. So pick and shovel in hand, that Bibique at the sight of all, break rocks, dig the black sand and uprooted the casuarina trees. The press got hold of the case of treasure hunter and read almost daily advances in excavations. Several cars of volunteers, attracted by rumors of the treasure land like a whirlwind on the site and help to dig hard. But there is nothing. The treasure hunters on Sunday but quickly tired Bibique, he remains determined.

After several decades of a treasure hunt without the adventurer is overwhelmed by his quest. He is anxious, loses sleep but always dream of treasures and victories, as happens when asleep. His relatives tell that by the end of his life, Bibique rose at night to write pages and pages of coded messages. The mysteries of piracy, too heavy to include, will vanquish him. He killed himself March 31, 1995 at the age of 59 years. According to his will, the ashes are scattered in the ocean, this fortress which still remain elusive buried secrets of the buccaneers, these "dark angels of freedom."

Born in a world that no longer believes in adventure, Bibique shared his treasure, leaving behind a few of his dreams.

Hello Luc

It is a sad but all to common thing when passion becomes an obsession. There are all too many treasure hunters out there do not know when to quit on their quest.

Professional Treasure hunting should be viewed like a business. You need to have no pre-conceived belief of the truth of the story and research it clinically with your head and not you heart.

You have to go where the research takes you and not where you like to go. Too many people dream of the discovery and very few will ever make it. Some times you need a little luck your side and there is no guarantees even with much research you will ever be close to solving the story.

Thank you Luc for the sobering reminder to use our heads and not our hearts when searching the enigmatic treasure legends we read about on great forums such as this.

Hardluck  Wink

Good post, Luc. When I saw Olivier Le Vasseur, I thought we had both posted the same story as we were only moments apart.  Smiley  Bibique, upon discovering he had pirate's dna in his body, certainly had an adventure on his quest. He probably had a way more exciting life, following his dreams, than he would have had otherwise. Sue

Hi Sue

Very happy to read you.

The end of life Bibique is pathetic, I think anything other than his quest to discover a treasure, had his eyes more important than family or close friends. Indeed his life has been exciting for us but is it really true for him .....

All the best
Luc

Luc, True, he was so obsessed in the end that it took it's toll. Had he actually found, the ending probably would have been quite different. I'm hoping the fellow in the other story searching for Levasseur loot finds something.

Templars, Masons sure keep popping up a lot lately. I saw a recent news story where current members today are searching for an old church - maybe treasure, too? I never thought about them being treasure hunters. Sue

The templers supposedly looted much treasure in the holy land, so I guess it's in the blood there too   Grin

The search for treasure, that find of a life time, can be a motivator and destructor if not managed carefully. Despair at finding each lead dry up and yet relentless hope that the next shovel stroke will hit paydirt. An emotional rollercoaster, but what a ride!   Grin

If you are doing what you love to do what more of life can one ask?

Hi Idaho Jones,

Concerning the Templars before them of others like the Romans, the Visigoths, Huns, the Tartars coveted the richnesses of the others.

The dream of the archeologist isn't it the same one as that of treasure hunter?

Probably that yes, for the moment I cannot answer this question because in spite of my readings, my studies my research I until did not make today of significant discovery of treasures. But I think that must be enough jubilatoire to prove that its investigations were founded.

Best regards

Luc

Greetings Luc Smiley

To be sure I think anyone hunts old things in the dirt is probably a treasure hunter at heart  Grin Picking up a relic that hasn't been seen or touched for untold ages is satisfying like chocolate. It tastes great but then its gone and you want more!

What one finds is less important than what one learns on the journey I believe. If I ever found a massive treasure I would likely sell it off for funds for the next adventure  Grin
