One more fun read. This one reads a bit more tabloid like.

Looks like you guys have been busy...now I'll have to play catch-up.    My only addition to the conversation thus far is that Queen Anne's Revenge was not Blackbeard's first ship, but he did take an instant liking to her and kept her when he and his crew captured her in 1717.  citation (not because it's necessarily the best, but it is the handiest):

And the last one tonight. An intriguing article. I find it interesting that in this version Blackbeard left a man in the powder hold with burning match who was charged with destroying the ship should it fall to the enemy. When the ship fell two prisoners in the hold prevented him from setting off the blast.

What is interesting is this same chain of events can be found in the story of Bartholomew Roberts, even to the prisoners stopping the blast. Was it mixed up a purpose, on accident, or did the event happen twice to two seperate captains? hmmm  Undecided

On first blush, that two captains would have a man prepared to destroy the ship rather than have it captured doesn't sound too odd to me, but that the rest of the two stories should share so many details in common smells of sensationalism.   and in light of that given the nature of the ships of the day and the style of fighting, and the number of ships that were destroyed when the powder was sparked accidentally, it's hard to imagine any captain stationing a crewman with a burning slow match near the powder......too many things could go wrong (not to mention that puts you one man short in an on deck free for all)

I agree BA and I'm suspicious of the account however since Roberts career ended in 1722 perhaps they were just copying a scenario from Blackbeards end? Henry Glasby who was a navigator pressed into service by Roberts and several times tried to escape was behind stopping the suicide run. Just found it interesting, perhaps someone has more info on it?

Hi GB, the pdfs are old newspaper articles. It's the only way I can post them in readable format.

There definitely seems to be some dramatic differences between the description of the cup and the Snow skull. The Snow skull in no way resembles a punchbowl or cup. Why would Wedbee say one thing then later change his story? hmmm  Huh?

What is surprising is that more skull cups have not popped up far as I can see, you would think there would be more fakes around.
