Hello all

I'm Swiss, so please excuse my poor English.

I do some researches about Lionel Wafer. The earliest thing i know about him is his first voyage to Indunesia. He was 27 then. So my first question:
1. Does anybody know something about his youth? Where did he born?

Wafer descripes some locations in the carrebean that i'm not able to identify. So my secound question:
2. Does anybody know the modern names of the following locations:
a) Golden-Island
b) Samballoe's
c) Bastimento's
d) Portobel
e) Santa Maria

You find all these names in Wafers own descripstions:

For d) i think he means Portobello near Panama (a really small spot)

Would be really kind if anyone would be able to help me. Thankyou.

Hello Publius Enigma

Lionel Wafer  British surgeon was allegedly born in Wales about 1640.

Most of the locations you mentioned are connected to the Isthmus of Darien

Golden Island is an Island in the Caribbean sea, Near a place called call New Edinburgh Scotland's only attempt colonize another country.

Samballoe's alternate spelling Sambala is a group of islands in the Caribbean sea.

Bastimento's Huh?? Sorry that one escapes me.

Portobel, you are correct is Portobello on the Caribbean coast.

Santa Maria was a Spanish town on the junction of the Tuqueso River also was also called Santa Maria River and Turya river. West of these rivers was early gold mining operations by Spaniards on a river known as the Gold river mines. The river was worked in the dry season.

I hope that has been of help.

Hardluck.
