What are these symbols?

CptEvil:
Dear all,
Looking through an old French crew-list, I found some symbols next to peoples’ names. The symbols come in a couple of different types, but seem to be modal built-up by a few basic symbols.
Does anyone have an idea of the meaning of these?

No Language I ever Seen.
My Guess is Some Brand Marks to ID a type of Shipment or Cargo.
Maybe a Signature of Owners of the Cargo?
I'm thinking it just a Signature on a List?

The Term "Dear" in the English Language is a In during term to the Opposite Type.
It sound Queer to me.
Better use the Term Hello All or Hear Me?
Please don't us it any more!

Unfortunately that column header is blank. Maybe it is some kind of ransoming mark?

Nonsense. It is a formal form of address in all written correspondence as well.
That heading column scan wasn't much help.

Well I would like to see more then 4 names before I make a guess. But yea I know old Seldom always has a but, I notice number 1 and 3 signed on with an X and the symbol to the right is close to the same so with so little info I say its a personal short hand maybe to show rate of pay or ration of rum.

Like Seldome (French for Seldom), I think it's a personal code for the passengers' situation. One way passage, berthing status (married, single) and such but without a lot more information, even Sherlock Holmes couldn't make a valid guess.
