My version of a gold sucker or sniper
As seen in a video on You Tube

Materials:

A piece of 3? X 48? ABS pipe
1    3? ABS pipe cap
1    3 X 3 X 2 X 2 ABS pipe fitting
1    3? test plug, mine is a Test Titan by Sioux Chief
2    1? one way valves, ball check or spring loaded
2    2? to 1? reducer bushings
1    7? piece of ?? 600 PSI CPVC pipe
1    ?? Tee
1    ?? cap
1    1? X 1? piece high press CPVC
1    Can PVC cement
1    4? ? X 20 carriage bolt
2    2? fender washers ?? hole
2    ? x 20 nylock nuts
1    Approx. 3? solid rubber ball, it should fit loosely in 3? pipe but be
able to squeeze to a tight fit.
6 > 8? of ?? ID clear hose, so you can see all that gold come in.
1    1? to ?? reducer bushing
3 or 4 feet of 1?? accordion type hose
3    screw clamps

Construction:

Cut 3? ABS into 3 pieces 1 @ 11? / 1 @ 9? and 25? I used the
Remaining 2? as a protector ring for the plug.
Glue the 25? piece of ABS into one of the 3? ports on the large
fitting and the 9? piece of ABS in to the other port.

Cut a 2?? piece off the 1? & 1?? X 1? pieces of pipe. Glue the 1?
piece into the input side of the 1? valve and the 1?? piece into the
output side of the 1?? valve. Now glue these into their respective
adapters and then into the 2? ports on the large 4 way fitting.

Drill a hole just a little bit larger than the dia. of the ?? pipe in the
Center of the 3? cap and a couple of ?? vent holes.
Cut a 26? piece of the ?? pipe.
Drill a ?? hole in the center of the ?? cap, insert the carriage bolt
With the head inside the cap and screw on one of the nuts up tight
To the cap.

Put the 26? X ?? pipe thru the hole in the 3? cap and either glue the
cap w/carriage bolt to the ?? pipe or as I did use a machine screw
with nut to hold the cap in place.

Now drill a ?? hole as close to center in the rubber ball, slide a fender
Washer on the bolt then the ball, the other washer and finally the other
Nut.

At this point I should mention that it would make inserting the ball in
The 3? tube if you file or cut (be careful) an inside chamfer on the main
Tube so the ball goes in easier.

Adjust the pressure on the ball until it fits snugly into the main tube and
Slip the cap on and push it down snug.  Do not glue this so you can remove
to clean it out or adjust ball pressure.

Cut a 3? piece of ?? pipe and glue the into the 1? to ?? reducer and insert in
One end of the ? ID hose to it with clamp.  Insert the remaining ?? pipe into
The hose and clamp it, slip the reducer into the input valve and push it in snug,
do not glue, this is your probe for sucking up all that glorious gold.

Cut a 3? piece of the remaining 1? pipe and insert in one end of the accordion
Hose and clamp and slip into the output valve.  Put the other end in a bucket
and when the pump starts pushing sand out you can either empty the reservoir
or just continue pumping sand into the bucket.

Da Mini Hoovah
Or
The Mini Hoover

This could also be called ?The Sampler? because with it?s lighter weight it should be easier to carry into new venues and see whether it would be a productive spot for the big gun or not.

It?s really quite simple a 3? piece of 2? sch. 40 / 280 PSI / CPVC, a 2? slip on cap, a 2 X 1?? male thread adapter and a 1?? threaded cap.  Add to those pieces a ? X ?? adapter and a 24? piece of ?? sch. 40 CPVC or 5? if you plan on using it for the piston rod if not a 3? piece of ?? steel rod and a suitable handle.

First take the 2? slip on cap and drill a hole for the piston rod and don?t forget a couple of vent holes, set aside.  As for the piston a rubber ball or whatever gets your juices flowing, in my case I went a little fancy schmancy and cast a 2? plug out of polyurethane casting resin (had it on hand from potting a detector coil), I then drilled it for ?? rod, grooved it for ?O? rings and tuned it for good slide.  I slipped the cap on the rod and used an old shifter handle to wrap my fingers around (its chrome) and he said it was good.

Now on the other end I glued the threaded adapter on the 2? pipe and set aside.  Take the threaded cap and drill and file a hole that the ? X ?? adapter will slip into.  Ream out the inside of the adapter so it will slide on the ?? pipe and glue it so the hex end of the adapter is 9? from one end of the pipe.  Now glue the adapter into the cap with the hex inside and the probe is done.  Make sure you trim the piston rod so the piston comes to within about an inch from the ?? tube inside.

Remember the threads on these fittings are pipe threads (tapered slightly) and the more muscular you are in screwing them together the tighter they get.  I took the male threads to my mini belt sander and tapered them toward the end, this gave me a couple more turns before they lock-up.

There you have it my ?MINI HOOVAH?

Idea Here's a real time saver. I got this at the local lawn mower part dealer/hardawre store. This is perfect for sucking the cons out of the riffles, so you don't have to do clean ups as often. Makes for longer running times between clean ups and it's a good way to collect cons all day without multiple tear down, clean up, re-assemble and re-start etc. Works well for cleaning V mat also. OR, if you really find lots of gold, an industrial size snuffer bottle...lol

Yo dudes & dudettes I took the Mini Hoover up the creek today for a trial run or should I say suck and found a problem.  At least it's a problem for this neck of the woods, it's gravel, the ?" nozzle is too small and chunks a little bigger than ?" kept clogging it up so I wasn't able to get very much sucked up.  When I get it upgraded I will will report back.

I also found out that with my bum knee that with waders, on the way, it will easier to just walk thru the water than trying to hop from one rock to another.

Take care out there,
Gramps

Stretch a single piece of baling wire across the end of the nozzle. It will keep the bigger rocks from clogging the tip. Good luck and stay safe Gramps.
