Massive polymetallic epithermal auriferous sulphides...that's a big mouthful to remember. In layman's terms, that's lumps of mixed-up metals which were produced by hydrothermal systems related to volcanic activity, contains some gold, and are sometimes shallow enough for pick n spade to reach.
Target ID on the Fisher Goldbug Pro ranges from 45-63 for the smaller lumps, 74 to over 94 for larger pieces and if the machine overloads, back off the coil 3 to 6 inches and sweep again.
Keyword to remember is "polymetallic". Such lumps are not amalgams and are far from homogenous. Do a streak test on one part of a lump and it'll turn green pretty fast (copper) while other parts can show some color and will not tarnish.
