I'm lucky, my best friend works at a hardware store and I get his 20% discount.  Mad
I will be using your design Gramps, but I'll probably use all sch.40 for mine. The ABS (Awful Black shtuff) looks good, I just prefer the white stuff myself.

It's all sch. 40 Doc just a mix of ABS & CPVC.  I agree the patch work of colors is kind'a hugly but they had precut ABS and it is a little cheaper.  The big thing I wouldn't be so free with a remake is the glue, I'd leave the valves un glued so they could be removed for easier storage and transport.

One might consider using threaded fittings or a compression coupling at the valves to be able to remove them easily. I left some pieces unglued when I made my hydraulic shovel ( basically a big syringe) and after a while they no longer fit tight enough. Sand wears the pvc down pretty fast.

White pvc in large sizes gets spendy quick, and fittings are a little harder to find in 2"+ size for the white. There is usually a better selection of pieces parts in the ABS is why I use it. I did use white for my smaller diameter devices like the suction dredge. Very light and low cost both important for my uses Smiley

Another source of good pipe is craigslist. I'm always seeing leftover pipe for sale on there, if you have a little patience to wait. Often I'm in a rush   Grin
