I met a guy from Indiana who showed up in Az where I became friends with him. He showed me a vial of nice glacial gold from panning the various streams in that state. Sorry if not can't be more specific then that. It's out there and it's going to take a lot of panning to acquire some nice stuff. Too bad you can use mechanized methods to recover it like dredges or highbankers. I think he was panning on private property where got permission.

I have panned in Morgan State land. It was many years ago (30), and I did find a flake. it was a tiny piece and I still have it some where. Of course back then gold wasn't worth what it is today, so I didn't think it was feasable to continue.  if you look around over there you can still see evidence of commercial mining that went on much ealier in the 1900's.  I don't think you will find nuggets, but the gold will be just placer gold ground up from the glaciers.... I'm in Indiana, and do a little panning along with detecting, WELL, it's a good passtime, and fun, but I have never found  ANYTHING even close to gold, lot of interesting stuff, but good way to pass the time, good luck-Enjoy Teach

There is a GPAA group (Central Indiana Chapter) that may help you. I've been trying to get some answers about visiting them sometime this Spring but they have so much chatter going on it's hard to get an answer. They are south of Indianapolis in Brown County. They meet the 3rd weekend of the month. You can google "Central Indiana GPAA" and it should take you to their website. If nothing else, they may give you an answer to the water question.
