Was dropping 22K test acid on a bit of color, the excess flowed down to a patch of rust, ate it away and revealed more bits of Au.  Smiley

Weldone Hobbyist, its about time you had some luck, Lord knows you've spent enough time out in the Bush looking for it,

I have seen rust deposits on small gold/quartz rocks but never on bits that big??

good luck mate, you deserve it,

AU

Thanks mate! It was the Gold Bug Pro with 5" coil on that gave faint squeaks on that patch of rock. My mind's made up now...next purchase will be a higher kHz Gold Bug 2! Smiley

Hi Hobbyist

How are you going to get that gold out of that rock?

Yo Xavier. That is a very good question, and I've been asking myself the same thing ever since my GB Pro sounded a faint "HMM" over threshold on that patch.

It won't be easy, that's for sure. Crush to powder, sluice and pan seems to be the most expedient method. Its the crushing part that's gonna be hard/inconvenient. Then there's the economics of it....will enough color be produced to make the cost/effort worthwhile? That is a big unknown. Will such material only yield feasible amounts with heap leaching or froth floatation techniques? That's another big question, and those methods are for the big miners, not in the realm of the simple hobbyist.

I've been corresponding with several people who are experienced hard rock miners. and they all said essentially the same thing: go big or go home. A call from my broker today jiggled my tired brain...some years ago, I bought a few shares in a local mining corp. I may end up proposing that area to them, and settling for a modest percentage if they find it worthwhile to work on.

Well it will be a lot less work to carry the money than to crush the rock that's for sure, also if you can have a percentage of the profit it wont matter how much they make as you will still have a cut out of it, just don't sell as this could be a heart breaking experience. I have designed quite a few machines in my time so I can tell you that there is no rocket since in making a small crusher (most parts are in the scrap yard waiting for you)

All the best to you mate
Xavier
