Can't afford maybe one leg or one arm? Better yet, bring a few sheep along with you.

I'll try to find a few iPhone users to tag along on my next trip! Grin j/k

Bang Sticks work good.   You can make them for almost nothing. Cheesy

I had discussed the 2nd close encounter with another prospector, and he came up with a very logical reason for the attack: The 5x10 DD coil may appear like a duck or seabird to the croc, setting off it's dinner bell. He also highly recommended dynamiting the area, and I'd really love to do that if I could! Cheesy

Aah you're most welcome to come, Xav. Unfortunately dynamite is even harder to get ahold of than nitric acid over here. But here's an idea: if you can get some of those Federal reserve note/ Wells Fargo box guys to tag along as croc bait, we're good to go! Grin

You read my mind homie. Am waiting on some tungsten carbide drillbits to arrive, and hope I can bore some holes in that tough rock to pour in a similar expanding fluid. The normal Bosch cement and brick bits don't do the job.

Ordinary masonry bits with a true hammer drill (not the cheap ones that barely vibrate) will do the job.

I used a pneumatic one just yesterday to take the cap off of some boulders buried on the property. I drilled a couple of holes near each other and then used the air impact chisel to de-cap the rocks. No more "accidents" with the riding mower. I removed the top 6 inches and put down soil over the top. But, that's another story.

As for breaking rock, tungsten carbide is overkill and will shatter more easily than the cheap masonry bits. Diamond bits work best of all but they're expensive. A true hammer drill is the answer. That hard part is getting one that is portable. The link below might be helpful to you.

Thanks for the info! I'll try to rent a real hammer drill for a day and if the model I rent works well, will buy one brand new. There's lots of drilling to be done!

I wonder how would pool acid and break fluid work on a job like that? or fertilizer and diesel for that matter

Making ANFO is a serious NO NO here.   We use to be able to pop stumps and rocks with it before 911 thing with little worries and woes!

Now you have to cut corners to find Ammonia Nitrates.

Ammonia Nitrates.

That's easy enough to make but OK I don't believe in telling people how to make these thing (Takes fingers and sorts off) so lets pretend that I never said any thing. I had this friend in Cape Town who had this huge boulder in the middle of his garden, one day while mowing the lawn he said enough is enough so he got a load of fire wood and made a fire next to this boulder, the next morning he dumped a bucket of cold water on it well it cracked (Very dangerous) but he did get rid of it after a few moths.
