Fisher Gold Bug II, Fisher Double Box

Hi, I have an exploration, assay lab company. I look mainly for hot gold veins, gold pockets. Would like to use electronics to locate gold anomalies. Own a Gold Bug II, and a Fisher Double Box. To pin point anomalies would cut down on expensive core drilling. Any ideas..... Chuck

You're correct about one thing. Using detectors would locate anomalies and render the need for assays useless. Assays are useful for determining if hardrock ore has enough gold to be profitable but has no use at all on the vein itself. Are you sure you are an assayer?

Hi Gold Digger 1950, I see your a metal detector guy. And yes I am an assayer and have been one for the last 30 years. Have pioneered water assaying and PGM assaying. I do some coustom assaying, but only enough to keep me in supplies, kind of expensive habit I have. Have a fire / chem lab, mostly for my self. Lately I have been focusing in on gold pockets and platinum group metals.

Been looking at EM gear to locate pockets, but the problem with it is that it picks up on conductivity. The Gold Bug II and the double box detectors only pick up on the larger gold. Most pockets are fairly fine, match head size is probably the largest. Need to pick up to at least 12 feed deep. Most of the pocket here are small and haul it off in a wheel barrow, and worth about $30.000. These are extremely hard to find as they are blinded off from the surface and leave on tell tail trace. Any thoughts on detection gear?..... Chuck

If they are metallic ore and not molecular gold in igneous rock, any deep seeking detector can pick up a pocket the size of a coffee can at probably 10 feet or so. The larger the pocket, the deeper the detection. If I were going to do a metallic ore assay of the earth itself rather than samples of ore, I'd use either a sonar scan, a Magnetic Anomaly Detector or a ground radar imaging system. For ore in rock, core assays.

Sounds like your ready to try Induced Polarization Conductance Testing.

Equipment Required can be as simple as a pulse generator and good volt meter.

A portable O-scope to measure pulse decay time would be preferred.

Homefire, the trouble with all of that is a deeper problem of still having to dig to find the anomaly. I know we do the same thing with a metal detector but at least we can be reasonably sure we have metal at the other end and not just a lump of clay. Tons of material must be moved to figure it out. Those links were all interesting to read though. Thanks for those.

I know a man that has made his living doing this the past 30 years.

They confirm anomaly with core samples or following it to a surface showing if possible.

This is not for the casual prospector.

It takes a lot of shoe leather, Time and Work but it can be done.

If in fact he can find a pocket load, it would pay.

Thanks GD I've been looking and reading up on sonar. Some pretty neat stuff out there, unfortunately most of it is out of my limited finances.
Been also looking at Induced Potential too.

Thanks again for your post....... Chuck

I would go with a GPR unit but they can be expensive...
