You may want to make sure there are no silt regulations as well in your area in regards to dredge operation. A lot of places require settling ponds before reintroducing the water to the natural stream. Just something good to know beforehand in case the man shows up.

Dr. Pepper - I will recommend you look into using pond hose for your application. It costs about the same as shopvac hose - give or take, but might be had cheaper if you buy it by the 100 ft roll.  It is light weight and easy to carry, and comes in sizes from 3/4 inch-2 inch diameter.  But the corrugation is on the outside, making the inside smooth.  This gives better water flow.  And should you give the gravity dredge a try, it will not catch your material in the ribs.  Here is a link that will show you what I am talking about.  Food for thought...

peabody, thanks for the info, the smaller size would give me a little less flow which would be easier to control in the sluice box. good hunting
