GD, what part of "well meaning advise" is "no metal detector will allow you to find small gold in a tailing pile." See my signature picture?
Small gold from a tailing pile via MD.

You didn't answer my question, did you ever work the Dredge tailing piles in Snelling, Folsom or Yuba City?

Where did you get this information from "They didn't miss any large boulders full of gold." Experience or research? Already talked to all those who tried did ya?

You know, for a moderator on a metal detecting forum, isn't imagination what we all use to keep us in the field? Under that next rock is the big nugget.

I asked for advise on a specific system, you didn't have any, just naysayers response to the question.

I don't think most of us "point" our MD's at a hillside and hope we get a signal. We evaluate the ground, research and then go out.

I live right on top of the Melones fault, one mile from the gold discovery site in Coloma.

I think you picked up too much gravel in your travels and one rock got stuck in your shoe.

Here is My Advice!

Found gold in the tailing's ( Old Sluiced Wast Dumps, Dry Wash Piles, Stamp Mil spills and slops, Country Rock dumps on Hard Rock Mines, and a few other places) with a detector.

I use a VLF detector running at least 15 Khz all metal as hot as I can run it GB best that can be and check out every little target.

I really don't think a Blanket Coil like that could be used on the locations I hunted and Hunt.

Just Not Practical. No way to drag it over the Humps and Bumps.

Besides, they just can't find the little ones.

That peace you found could have been walked over many times with that coil and never been found.

No, I've never Used one.

It's just Science!

I'm working on a PI that's should be hot enough to do the job a bit better.

That's my Story and I'm sticking with it.

Well you don't like the answers you received don't ask the questions. Its easy to see you know little about gold, prospecting, metal detectors, or treasure hunting and you want to use what little knowledge you may have to argue and insult members.
You have said that you are getting info from other forums and thats a good ideal what is a bad idea is acting like a 5 yo saying momma said daddy said. Just take the info and use or ignore it your choose but stop with the insults and arguing.

Yep!   Showing a Attitude is just going to make folks leave you alone.

Alone is a bad bad place when your asking for help.

 Wink

I detect alone. No problem, most of my friends are long time, 3rd generation miners from the area.
I'll tap a local source. Sorry to have been a bother.

See ya on Treasure Quest. Bye bye. Cool
