A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.

I was looking at the Discovery channel just the other day, there was an old mine that is very rich in pyrite, if you recall there was a discussion some time ago that there was no gold in pyrite well this program has proved to me that the person saying that is wrong, they extracted tons of gold from this mine, they found about 5% of gold within the pyrite so for every ton of pyrite extracted they had 50Kg of pure gold not bad going if you ask me.

In that same post I told of Cypras Mines here in Deming doing just that.

Yes I remember that you said so and he was arguing that it was not so. I think that what he meant was that there was no gold in the pyrite however the two do get mixed in the same rock.

Thanks for posting that link Homie I was under the impression that the two did not mix but were found together in the same rock.

Can be Both.    Gold content in Pyrite is miniscule most times but Cypres was able to make it pay until the EPA jumped them.

Yes but I thought that it was only a neighbour of the pyrite and not inside the pyrite.

I hope we get to the bottom of this. I would like to know the real answer that we all could agree upon. I have found gold with black sand entrapped in it, but never black sand with gold entrapped in it. Could this be what we are seeing with the gold and pyrite? When a quartz vein pushes up through a crack in the host rock and gold bearing liquids are  accompanied with it, they  will precipitate out of it in the contact zone with most going to the metamorphosed contact zone and some going to the quartz. If some of the quartz or host rock or either have iron pyrite and some sulfides are also present, then I can see that the gold would adhere to the pyrites also and not just be associated with them. What do you guys think? Sound plausible? I think it would not take much sulfide to be present to do this.
