 Devil Hello everyone I'm real new to nugget shooting,( underline the new ) and don't know diddly so bear with me, I have a cheap little Bounty Hunter given to me as a gift, can it be used for nugget shooting? I live in Arizona close to Wickenburg outside Phoenix and there are alot of dry washes just begging to be looked at, and I am living on unemployment waiting for my SS to come through so I don't have money for a new better rig, but I can use all the advice I can get at this point, soooo HELP!

Welcome to our forum. Thanks for having joined us! Yes, your detector can be used for nugget shooting but it will have some limitations:

First of all nuggets are most of teh time ratehr small in size hence a machine being sensitive to small targets is your best choice. There are some detectors with a very high search frequenzy, specialized in finding these small nuggets. Also the ground mineralisation in these areas can be high making a machine go noise. This can be elimianted by some of the advanced ground filters with more expensive machines.

Nevertheless your machien sure has the ability to find gold and all sort of other metals!

So just give it a try and you sure will end up with some nice finds!

Please keep us posted about your finda dn good luck,

Christian

Hi & good luck. What a great thing to do if you're unemployed. See what you can find with the detector you have right now. You might be very surprised. Sue

shadetree#1;

Go for it!

Get a hand full of different sized lead shot, place them out on the ground, and see what the machine can find, for size and how far from the coil. While it is not gold, it approximates the shape and sizes you might find...... and run without discriminate, if you have it (GoldDigger1950 has me converted to no discrimination.) You can spray paint those shot with a fluorescent spray, too, flame orange makes them easy to spot to pick up.

Use the same view a panner would and work around big boulders, in the wash, and any out-jut of rock, from the sides. Also keep an eye on the thundershower warnings. You do NOT want to be in that wash, on a potential flash flood day.

When you fall trees, you always pick an escape route before dropping each tree, the same should be true of escape routes in a wash, get in the habit of watching for quick escape routes. It may never happen, but its good to be prepared. I dont know about snakes, in your area, but there is another subject for thought.

Hope it helps.
