Never tried nugget shooting. Thought it would be interesting. I have a White's GM II that needs the dust brushed off, but don't even have a clue as to where to start. I live in Washington and thought the Blewett Mining District would be a good start. Does anyone have any resources, online or otherwise, that would be good for a beginner? I think nugget shooting would be great in conjunction with sluicing or other means of placer mining.

Thanks

Sean

Gold can be found in areas already proven to have gold or near those areas. The fact is that there are inestimable numbers of gold bearing areas yet to be discovered because nobody had looked there yet. The odds are in your favor is you go to a known area but there's a small chance you could find the next gold producing area when you're out looking for relics on a farm site. One never knows.

So, go where the gold has already been found and look in increasingly larger circles around those areas. Then, enjoy the rest of the hobby but keep your eyes peeled for the chance occurrence of a nugget.

There's an area just off the shore in San Diego near the dog running beach in Ocean Beach where a canal empties into the sea. Gold has been panned by yours truly right there on the beach. Every spring, the beach replenishes itself. The canal contains creek and other runoff from all over San Diego County. During the spring melt, the water runs through it like a firehose carrying gold particles from all over the place.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
