Gooday All from Utah. I joined here because of a renewed interest of treasure hunting. I would like to start by building a sluice box. Any suggestions?

scimiter;

In regards to your April post:

Have you got that thing built yet?

Do you have it in operation yet?

Its now the end of the 1st week in July, you must have some gold to show us.

Ive built a number of different sluice boxes, I like the type with easily removable riffles.... just un-latch the front and pull the riffle out, while washing it off into a tub, below the end of the sluice box, then the carpet slides right out and into the tub...

The reverse process is put in the clean carpet, slide the riffles into the cleats, at the back and do up the front lacthes, and its ready to go again.

Its simple and mostly foolproof.

I agree with Christian, the simplest is going to be the best, no breakdowns in the field

What is miners moss? and where can you get it? can you substitute it for anything?

Dear Mr AKA,

What a strange name you have. But I digress. Two giant pandas can call themselves by whatever Chinese name they wish.

Here is a very, very easy sluice that simply cannot break down in the field. Or in the stream for that matter.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Miners  Moss: a commercial version of indoor/outdoor carpeting, for wich you can use any shot knap rug (withOUT sponge backing.)

Do you not wash out natural moss? It is supposed to catch fine gold.... I always try some, when prospecting but have NEVER found any gold in it, yet.

I have never stooped to buying carpet , salvage is always economical.... replaced carpet may have worn pathways but you need only use the good part. A carpet from a 12ft X 16ft room will fill a LOT of sluicebox!
