Yep, that is a book that I need to find.. I would like to understand the electronics of metal detecting from the perspective of a layperson, not an electronics expert/geek!! I am trying to understand why different metals are found with different frequencies, why two frequencies are better than one (this may be obvious), what to do when I need to 'tweek' a program and why, etc. I understand some of the functions of the detectors but not why you need to do somethings to improve them.  If I could find a book that explain the basics in an understandable way, then I feel that I will become a better detectorist and therefore, improve my chances of success.. I am sure there are a lot of very experienced experts out there that could impress me with their technical knowledge, however, I am more interested in the person who can explain these issues in common language... Thanks for any help that you can give or suggestions on reading materials.  Coloma Gold

If you search though the tech boards most if not all of your questions have been answered by our experts Eugene GD  Homefire and others. It may take some time to look it all over but worth it in the end.

I'm with you Coloma, I can fix about anything given enough time to study it. But electronics is my weak spot. Go through the past topics, great stuff in there. Also do a search and find a basic electronics site that suits you. They'll have a section on terminology that you can refer to. The mod's and people here are  very helpful to me, but i try not to ask questions that I can look up easily online.

Thanks Seldom... I may have to do just that. I was hoping to have a reference book so that I could easily refer back to it.  Perhaps the experts should compile a booklet that they could put on PDF and sell to members?!

why buy? there's plenty of websites that have the info for free. Save the parts you want in a notepad for offline use. Do a search "basic electronics"  You could even take an online course, then you'll have the books and knowledge

Thanks... perhaps that is just what I will do. I printed a copy of the previous link so that I could write sidebar notes on it and I'll put in in a folder for later.
