I would just like to respond to my last replies. First Spy, I know missouri is a good state for CW relic hunting, but in my area it is just not as concentrated as it was in Fla/Ala. I live in southwest missouri, and alot of the confederate forces here didnt even have regular army uniforms, which is no doubt kind of a bummer Sad Second Tyler, about the letter "I" in the shield on the button, it designates infantry, there are also "A" artillery, "C" cavalry, "R" rifleman, "V" voltigeurs, "D" dragoon. Third Sue, Im glad you enjoyed reading my list of CW finds, I thought for sure I was going overboard with it & as far as being at it for a while, off & on since age 11 or 12 & im 39 now. Been hunting consistently since 1990 & as far as research goes, to be honest its never really been one of my strong points other than just mildly, not that im not capable, its just that when you live in an area that is so packed with history, its hard NOT to find anything, its getting permission to hunt that is the challenge Wink

Understand - darned border ruffians, guerrillas and bushwhackers leaving lead around and little else. I am originally from SE Kansas. Neosho County. No fighting there that I was ever aware of. Early battle in Baxter Springs area though. Sue

No I wasn't into metal detecting when I lived down there. I read once that Baxter Springs was the most robbed town in America. Bonnie & Clyde robbed the bank as they were heading out of town and, on their way back through, a week later, robbed it again. Jesse James robbed it, too. It was a wild cowtown in the old days. It should be a great place for detecting. Later, Mafia had a little stronghold in that corner of KS. Never know what you might find.  Smiley Sue

Sue, how do you think the people in baxter would act with outsiders coming over there to metal detect? I would like to try it, that & possibly galena. By the way, bonnie & clyde also had a shootout with the local police in my town too. Smiley

Cool that Bonnie & Clyde raised a lil heck in your town, too. Familiar with the James McMurtry song 'Choctaw Bingo'? His lyrics are usually pretty real to life. Maybe you'll run into Ruth-Anne and Lynn  Smiley Seriously, I doubt if anyone would care if you detected there. I don't know anything about Galena - familiar with the name, but that's it. Sue

ruth-anne and lynn come from baxter springs
thats one hell-raisin town way down in southeastern kansas
got a biker bar next to the lingerie store
thats got rolling stones lips up there in bright pink neon
and they're right downtown where everyone can see em
and they burn all night
you know they burn all night
they burn all night
