Found this on a small island on the only patch of beach i  Detecting explored about 15 inches down. Wasn't getting any signals so i decided to use the relic mode on my Safari, it paid off. My first postable relic just wish i could get a bit more history or knowledge of it. It weighs 9.65 pounds. And i'm positive its a chain shot. If anyone knows any resources on how to identify Nationality or any info by size and weight i'd very much appreciate it.

Don?t want to bring rain on your parade, but it looks more like a weight for a chimney sweeper brush device...
The chain seems quite fragile for a chain shot cannon ball, since its not welded and have open chain links.

On a island beach with no houses on it? Thought the ones for the chimmney brush heads where cylindrical with a tapered end. I was thinking it might be a chain shot used to rip apart ship masts and sails, granted it don't have the other ball connected to the other end of the  chain. And as for its small size at just under 4.5 inches that it could be from a bow or stern cannon which was mounted on the bull works banister on a swivel commonly fired by the captian or 1st mate. But I do respect your opinion and thank you for your insight to my post.

As for the chain links being unwelded and it is true that with significant force that one of the balls would break free is true. That's why I'm leaning to a English chain shot as all info and pictures on their chain shots had unwelded links or even a weak link almost clasp resembling at last link to one of the balls as once wrapped around the mast or impact one end ball would break free and fly off with still lethal force to damage more of the ship or crew.
If any of this makes sense, hard for me to explain what I've been reading and studying into it, I don't have the sites where I've read some of this info as I'm not at my house computer. But truly appreciate any opinion and insight!

It is chain shot . The smaller calibers were used for the rigging only. Also used as ani-personel shot . Just immagin these cannon balls whirling around on a ships deck .  Cornelius
