Hi Shooter Mc,
Once this hobby bites you you can't put it down, I'm hoping that they invent "a wheelchair" version for when I can't stand up anymore..

thats a good question Heathen. I would like to know the answer myself. I wouldn't "clean" them with a hammer until I made sure. Otherwise you might get splattered and wind up on 1000 ways to die on tv!

OK Guys,
I should have made mention about the different types of ball. These are "solid" shot or demolition balls when you find the "other" type they are "hollow shot" usually filled with gunpowder and musket balls they are lighter in weight and have a very obvious "fuse" hole somewhere on it and when shaken they rattle also usually filled with water after so many years under ground, the fuse "packing" is made of leather and can be removed easily. I never leave these things to "dry out" get em while they are wet.
As I have said before "not sure?" leave it to the experts....HH...Johnnn
