I revive this old post to contribute on the historical Value of those discoveries.

Here in italy this findings are common in certain areas so you need to be careful..
Weapons hideout are common Too... Some old partisan or fascist hide rifles and explosives at the end of the wwii.

We need to understand the fears of those People.. Maybe they think that another war was near.. Or revenges For crimes committed during war... So they hide weapons instead of give them to the Police.

Sometimes the discovery show in the newspapers, i remember a detectorist that found a hoard with 19 hand grenades near an old House... And an old man told me he hide a Sten and a pistol in a wall but he forget the place.

Aircraft bombs and shells are common... They find a shell deposit of 88 cannons near an anti Aircraft position.
