Best not to mess with ordnance, just report it and leave it be. I came across a mortar shell exposed on the side on a hill while detecting. After looking around a bit I could see that the hillside was covered in bits of ordnance fragments and some unexploded here and there. I reported it to a near by Marine Corps Base. The site was probably a target area for weapons practice. Embarrassed

Yes, the Jap grenades from WW II are some of the most dangerous and volitile because of the picrik acid...a slight jar or bump can set them off.

Those things sure as heck will give you a start when you find them.....and rightly so.   They really do have a tendency of going off at the worst possible time, much to the dismay of firefighters, farmers, and the occassional too curious "searcher".

CHRISTIAN, You folks in Germany have some interesting stuff to recover for sure---but highly on the dangerous side it seems. I'd really be careful digging up some of that stuff. GOOD LUCK!
Nothing like a good Bazooka find around these parts where I hunt. COOL! I guess authorities are trying to protect you folks by confiscating the items such as Bazookas.
