Hi Folks,

I found this a couple of years ago. It was close to
the Arkansas  River.

I always thought it was a mini ball after I scraped
it until I could just make out the rings on one side.
It?s also the same weight  as a three ringer mini ball.

But, it finally occurred to me that this has a different
purpose.

Can you guess what it is?

It?s a fishing line weight.

Needs to be pretty heavy because of tha river current.

Someone flattened out a mini ball and folded it over
the fishing line.

I?ll bet three Arkie Barkies I?m right.

that's interesting, never heard of doing that but I don't see why not, I was thinking maybe a slug after it ripped through something but I  guess I could see it as a weight, little odd though

Hay Farm Digger,

I do not think it is odd at all.

Fishermen have been flattin out junk lead  to
make sinkers for as long as there has been lead
to use.

I know more than one fishermen right now that
keeps lead in their tackel box.

Why buy sonethin that is free and easy to use?

I have seen variations to that just as there are
today. It it is common for people, then and now,
to flatten out lead and poke a hole in it. Then
tha fishin line can be tied to tha sinker.

We use all kinds of stuff for fishing wieghts on the ar river one of my faves. it an old sparkplug. lol. I am a mechanin so i have plenty of them.

It is a fishing weight or possibly a crude plumbob weight...but most likely a fishing weight. Great
