Go Up Go Down

These cutting tools(minus the wooden handles) were found in the woods in Germany.  I didn't think they would cut many trees down so I asked the "expert" that was along on this hunt what they were doing in a forest.
He told me that in earlier times these woods were probably a place for growing grapes and the little tools were used for cutting  vines.  During the great plague many of the villages were wiped out and eventually the wine areas were turned into woods.
Near  this same area the "expert" was diggin out a deep, big target.  He got it mostly uncovered and I asked what he thought it was.  He said  it was probably a land mine from WWII. I think he later reported it to the appropriate people.
I like to hunt in Christian Country because you just never know what you will find.   There must still be many secrets buried in the woods

The soil in the area we hunt is excellent for preserving iron.  The sword find described by Christian that Jungle Jim cut his finger on was from the same location.

Very nice''they look like small sickles and I guess thats what they are.

Anything iron I find I brush off the loose rust and bake in the oven at about 150 degrees F for a while to get the moisture out..it stops the iron from flaking.

Stingy..if you do that and you want to coat the item to protect it..coat it while it is still warm..not hot..this will stop moisture from going back into the item.

Thanks for the tip Dean.  I've got a couple of items i may try that with as soon as i run across them again.  I think I've got them somewhere out in my garage now though, not sure when I'll get back out there to look around for them though.

As soon as I'm able to find them though i would like to try that.

On the times that you used that process did it seem to help bring out any details?
