A range of various lead bullets and musketballs from British sites with an interesting small cannonball coated in lead. Its been suggested that this was done to reduce windage and increase accuracy.

I would of thought that the lead would have been put on it because lead being soft it would have made the shot fit the barrel better
and also lubricate the bore of the cannon, as wellas add extra weight to the shot

Thats what I thought but the "experts" claim windage and the one other I've seen wasn't very round which you would think would be the first thing they would aim for. "Aim for"....almost a joke there.

Thanks for the response

Come to Wales. I had 26 last week most of which have impact damage. At another site a large, and I mean large cannonball which I managed to put my back out with trying to carry it up from the beach. Had to leave it where it was. Felt better yesterday but tripped and did it again. I'm not a happy bunny to say the least !
