Well I thought I should start contributing with some of my own finds, instead of just drooling over Johnnn's  Grin

Here is my latest find. I dug this one a few weeks ago when I was on home from leave as I am currently deployed overseas. I only managed to get out for one hunt, and I guess I made it count. I knew when I dug this button it was a good one....just wasn't sure how good. It is a War of 1812 United States Artillery 2nd Regiment button. It turns out it is extremely rare. From what I can tell, there are only a handful known to exist in collections. I am also told there were only 300 every made as the maker never received the contract. Interesting if true, and might make sense when you consider how few have been found.

It certainly cleaned up nice and was a real bonus considering my entire detecting year has been taken away. I have been away since spring and will not return home until Christmas.

That is one nice button.
Thanks for your service overseas, and will look forward to your return and all your finds then.

Thanks Johnnn. It's funny, I have not found many "common" 1812 buttons, but have several more desirable types. I would love to see some close-up shots of some of your buttons. If you have any you want ID'd shoot some pics my way.
