Go Up Go Down

Hi,

Early this month I was near the town of Orscholz, Germany looking for relics.  In this area is where the battle of Orscholz took place.  I found this off the side of a road.   I uncovered this and took the picture.  I didnt want to take any chances.  I reported this to the German Police.    Any idea what this is?   My guess is a mine.

Thanks

It's about the size of a coke can.

I have asked the opinion of what I found to my fellow co-workers which also deal with ammunition.  Determine it is a smoke grenade, the closest item we have found is the picture I have attached.  Which is a White Phosphorous grenade.  If anything changes I will let you all know.

Link below is a better picture of what the grenade looked like around WW2.

ammodog68, Mmmmmm... It may be ordinance but from the photograph it appears to have been smashed somewhat. The "cap" on top is not positioned in the center of the body and the body appears to be somewhat irregular in shape not totally unlike something that has been compressed. If the body (canister) is heavy sheet metal like explosive ordinance it would be pretty resistant to distortion due to compression. Some of the smoke grenades I have seen are only slightly heavier than beer cans and would probably compress like that if they were treated roughly. Just a guess.

It looks more like a smoke grenade canister, but you were smart reporting it.
