Hi Sarge relics

Is that a piece of shrapnel? And the two green pieces must be bits of a brass bell possibly blown to bits by that piece of shrapnel. Smiley

Best Regards

Xavier

Yes, there is a piece of shrapnel there.  And, you are correct, that is a "cavalry bell".  I started finding fired bullets around the bell.  If you take the two pieces of the bell and put them together, they were using it for target practice.  You can plainly see the path of the bullet through the bell.  Thanks for lookin.

Hi Sarge Relics

Isn?t it amazing all the information about the past happenings that one can find just by looking at some broken bits and pieces. So what was on that particular site? A military camp? Or a battle? Perhaps a bunch of hooligans just having fun with granny?s bell  Grin

Best regards
Xavier

This was a possible picket post on the Hatchie river in west Tennessee.  We have found other small sites scattered throughout the area.  We know where the main camp is, but can't get permission to hunt it.  We've been hunting this site for probably 12 years and still finding stuff.  There have been hundreds of bullets found here, buttons, a boot pistol barrel, stirrup, several other different whatzits.
