Was Davy Crockett in the "war of 1812"??

(1/1)

johnnn:
I recently watched an episode of "Myth Busters" the guys who are involved in this show are always blowing stuff up or proving/disproving myth and legend.
This time they were trying to resolve the myth that "Davy Crockett" had at a distance of 40 yards hit the blade of an axe so precisely with a musket ball that it split in two, they managed to "prove the myth"  by doing the same thing only at a closer distance.
Soooooooo I remembered amongst my thousands of musket balls I had some peculiar Ball, it would seem reasonable to expect that out of the many many thousands of ball fired during the war of 1812 that "some" would bear the marks of strikes against all sorts of objects.
I have two ball that are cut in two one is still  joined by a small piece of lead as shown in the picture the other is completely cut in two and I found the two pieces on the same day but never bothered to check them out it turns out that they are the "same" ball and fit perfectly together.
I wanted to next prove that these were actually "fired" ball so I cut one in two with a very sharp knife, this produced a "flat" spot on the ball where it was placed on my anvil as you would expect, the two from the war have no such markings I am thinking what are the chances that these ball actually struck a bayonet or a raised sword? So Mr Crockett myth proven!!
I have also posted pix of strange items from this war that are "made" from musket balls I know this because I weighed them and they are the exact same weight as the large calibre British ball one of them has been fashioned into what looks like a tobacco pipe..........HH.....Johnnn

Yeah sometimes this happen, in the civilwar theres so many bullets coming from each side that some of them just hit each other. Like them can hit a blade or a axe, of course it only happens very few times.  ;D

After serving (1813?14) under Andrew Jackson against the Creek in the War of 1812, he settled in Giles co., Tenn., and in 1821 was elected to the state legislature.

bigwater isn't doing anything, and in fact has no clue what Christian is doing other than "something" is being done... I don't even know if Christian is doing it or if he's hired it out.

To solve the issue of not seeing pages past the first page, go to your user control panel and set the number of messages per page to the max...100.  Most threads don't go past 100 posts so you'll get them all on one page.  For the ones that go over 100, as of now, oh well.

Back on topic, there's not much known real history on Crocket before 1821 other than a few minor entries in history regarding his military service.  He had a daughter born in 1812, which probably meant he was home keeping the home fires stoked at the time.  He did die at the Alamo in 1836, and had a pretty successful, if not contraversial political career between '21 and the time of his death.
