I believe there is. Where the NIV seems to make the Bible easier to understand it also changes the meaning of certian verses. Even the new KJV is differnt. I like the older ones, Prior to 1960. Of course I have a Scofield Bible. Am I wrong, please explain.

I like the New Kings James Version, from what I have gathered from many of the scholars say the New American Standard is the closet version as far as accuracy goes. I gues if you want the original versions you would have to be able to read and understand, Greek, Hebrew and Arameic. What really matters is that its a solid translation that you can comprehend and grow closer to God. Ask God to help you understand what you are reading and what how to apply it to your every day life. I hope that helps. God Bless, Brian  Smiley

I am  with upsmanpa --- if you want the original versions you're going to have to be able to read and understand Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek.   As beautiful as the King James is, not only is it a seriously flawed translation, but the meanings of a lot of the English words used in the King James have changed radically in the last 400 years.

Ultimately Christian is correct, though---you either believe it or you don't.

I'm a 1611 ONLY (KJV) person, Jesus has blessed the KJV for all these years, all the other versions come onto the scene and last for a decade or two and then die.

The differences in bibles in my opinion, is how you read it.
If you follow the ten commandment throughout your life and your mind is full of love and kindness for ALL mandkind as well as ALL god's creatures, then you will surely have a happy life.

I read the king james version and find it very helpfull.

The KJV is the most accurate of all. This was proven by a man who knew every single language and dialect up to the year 600 A.D.

I believe there is only one Holy Spirit so there can only be one God Breathed infallible Holy Bible.

Check here for the differences in the various translations.

Amen! KJV is the only bible to depend on. All the newer versions are taking out the real value of God, the blood! Yes I know it is in the footnotes, but do you think our Savior suffered and died on the cross for our sins by shedding his precious blood so that it could be in the footnotes? Kinda like the new coin dollars, move Gods name to the rim, the first place it can be worn off, and not seen. Just my HO. God bless you and yours.

been a while since anyone spoke to this topic.

i must say, i prefer the NKJV....to me its almost a translation to another language...the KJV can be hard to read, interpret
i believe that you can read the same verse 10 times at 10 different places in your life and get many different meanings all in the same version.

Translating the Bible to any language is not taken lightly by any means.
The Dead Sea Scrolls were found to be word for word correct with the KJV at a rate of over 95%, only differences being minute, that didnt change the story, basically only spellings etc...

I believe that God has protected his Word over the years, what i just stated backs that up.

dont think you can really go wrong if your reading the Bible, no matter what version!

i do like to know the meaning of some of the key words, like 'Father', translated back in reference to God, meaning 'Daddy' in some cases...its helps to know what kind of relationship we are to have with Him.
Didnt get a full grasp of this till i had kids, and i would never want any harm to come to them, but there are times when i know they need correction, not for the immeditate dissappointment and sadness, but for the long term blessings by learning right...and how much more does our Father love us? pretty cool!
just one example of what some knowledge from literal translations can show you

but again, good to get your hands on any version, then study from there into different versions
the story will be the same throughout, but better understanding may come from that one thing we all love, research!

Here is a man who knew everything about the translation of the Holy Bible. No one I know of has done anything comparable. Some very interesting reading.
