Thanks for the replies and comments, guys.  That reperesents a lot of digging and it's my proudest photo for sure.  Seeing a lot of posts by guys who are discouraged and posting that pic is for them--even with the gold price as high as it is and more people hunting, IF you observe and study the sites you hunt, learn a bit about grades, strata, tides and the patterns that indicate the movement of sand, there is lots in the ground.  At our freshwater beach we find coins from the 1890's--so just because there are less recent drops to be had is no reason to give up--its just got a bit more challenging. Re/ practicing what I preach--for sure, my last hunt post ("$2000 week in the water ") literally took every trick in the book" to beat out the locals.  I'm currently working on a book that focusses on understanding edge changes (usually the most solid ground) and understanding the "exchange"--how sand is taken out and replaced.  There's still lots for those of us who have been studying sites and working at skill building all this time.

wow  Cheesy ... that has just renewed my enthusiasm for beach combing with a detector. ... just have to get past all those ring pulls and discarded cans .. then maybe, just maybe, after a few years i'll too have a collection, maybe not quite as big... but you never know   Detecting
