My dad found 3 rings in the past few months with his MD. he wants to sell them and sell his MD, and upgrade to a better unit for the beach. Where would we take the rings? Just to give an idea of what he has...

A light .925 wedding band

Light sterling peace ring

A gold class ring (couldnt find owner) womans ring, with a red ruby in the center, and 2 small diamonds on each end.

Hi,

At a pawn shop you will get little for the silver pieces.  The gold they will likely pay you so much
per gram (with some weight deduction for the stone).  The qty is too low to send to a smelter.
One place where you might do better is someone who makes jewelry.

Maybe he could sell the silver rings to someone as rings (friends?).  Actual jewelry (undamaged)
is often worth far more than the scrap metal value.  Of course, it may take longer to sell.  In the
pawn shops I worked, many cheaper rings we bought at scrap price (pink ice, wedding bands and
the like).  I then cleaned them up and did minor repairs.  Clean and polished they often sold at
far more than scrap.  A small pinky ring might have $3-$5 scrap value but the ring would sell at
$10-$20.

Appraisals can be had at any of the above, but if they think they may be buying... they will most
likely low-ball you.  Any of the above and jewelry stores can also determine if you have something
special (nice gems, etc).

Good Luck!

I figured with the class ring, it would only be good for scrap because it has the high school name engraved on it. Who would buy that? Im trying to find a decent place to take that ring and they will give me a decent value for the gold itself, and maybe extra for the diamonds and the ruby which are in good shape that maybe they could use themself.

Class Rings are 10K tops!

Try to find the owner and you may be better off.

Karma is good.

I don't know... mine was 14KT.  Of course that was in 1976.  Boy, that really "dates" me!

These days you're doing good just to find gold rings with all the junk-metal ones (palladium,
plated, etc).

Hey just a tip, most jewelry stores are buying gold and most will pay more than pawn shops. Appraisals can be done there as well.

I get a lot more jewelry, but I have sold rings to
girls that work at fast food and lunch type restrants.

Most girls and women between 10 and 30 would be
interested in looking at what you got, and want it.

It is easier to sell than people think.

The problem is, only 0.5% of the jewelry I find is
good enough to sell.

I accumulate the gold and send it to Mid West
Refinery.

I have sold stones in bulk for bargan prices to
a couple of folks.,

Happy Huntin,

Tabdog
