If you ever dive on a Dutch (VOC ) wreck you may fins  Meerschuim pipes . These pipes were often used because rolling your own cigarets was not in yet . To keep a pipe lit was quite a bit easier with all the wind and rain coming down on you . This article is in Dutch but you can go by the pictures and form an idea .

Cornelius,

Do you have any clay pipes in your collection? If not the next time I go to that Island in the Caribbean I will send you a few, if you want them?? I should be back down there before the end of July. I have to finish a survey first, in another location.
