Can anybody inform me about the coordinates of the Jupiter Inlet Wreck ? Whos owns the lease , and who is working on it ? I am interested in doing some additional research and salvage as long as I am not working in somebody elses lease . See what you can find out for me . Regards Cornelius

Cornelius, this is in regard to this topic and another one here you posted about the main pile of the Jupiter Inlet wreck......keep in mind that the original inlet location, at the time of the sinking of the San Miguel de Arcangel in 1559/1560, was 1200 feet further south than the current Jupiter inlet. Now I am assuming here that the inlet was actually open during 1659-we don't have any historical record to confirm this. We do know that by 1696, from Jonathan Dickinson's journal, that Jupiter inlet was open.

It was until the early 20th century that the current location of Jupiter Inlet was dredged and opened.

Tom it is not important where the inlet of Jupiter was . What is important was the direction of the wind ( storm ? ) . If a ship was hugging the coast of florida ( instead of the Bahama coast ) the storm comming from the South or the East would blow the ship fist Westward and then when the wind would come from the North East the ship would be blown upon the coast ( This is the lefthand upper quadrant of the wind direction ) . So when the mouth of the inlet was replaced 1200 feet more North the coins could be to the North of the inlet as well as to the South ( the area now worked ) . The question is where are the cannon ? They must be to the North of the inlet if you ask me . This is when we are discussing the Archangel . However , there is a second wreck to the South East of the inlet . This is a Spanish galleon .This wreck was never researched or sought after . Like I wrote before I have found information making this a valid statement . Look at the 8-10 fathom line , to the South East , and you will find your cannon and with that the debris trail . Cornelius

The galleon wreck to the southeast of Jupiter inlet...are we talking a ship from an earlier period than the San Miguel de Arcangel? What does your research say?

How far to the southeast should I be looking? Is 4 miles too far south? How about a mile offshore...that would be about 75 feet of water in this area. How do those number jibe with your research?

Jupiter Inlet was known by the Spanish and shows up on charts as early as 1500's. Juan Ponce de Leon cruised the eastern shore in 1513, putting in at Jupiter Inlet to gather firewood and naming the Loxahatchee River "La Cruz" (The Cross). His party was attacked by sixty Indians...........

I may not be fully up to speed, but the last I heard there were three principal partners in the Jupiter Wreck. The leaseholder company is JWI which I believe stands for Jupiter Wreck Inc. Scott and Dominic are the only ones really active in the salvage.

Robert I was aware of one lease . Are there more leases in the same area ? If not , can you find out what the coordinates are of the existing lease . I am on to something but it is not of any use if it is within somebody's lease . See what you can find out for me please . Regards Cornelius
