On a dive on the Z 21 Wilhelm Heidkamp in Narvik, Norway, I found a brass name plate. The plate had the inscription: Matrose Karl Schwedhelm. In a search on the internet I found out that there is a German writer called Karl Schwedhelm. So it was almost impossible to find any information about that man. He was a sailor on the Z 21 and probably died in the battle. If anyone found anything about this man please let me know. Thx. Eddy

Hi Eddy, I looked around and, I believe, the writer died in 1988, but he could have been on the ship. Neat find. Sue

Hi Sue,
That is possible, but then he has survived the battle of Narvik. I found the plate in a room in the wreck. When it should have only the name "Karl Schwedhelm" on it, I would think that it was a plate from a book. But here it was handscripted and has the word "matrose" above the name. So I did not think it was the writer.
I can try to findout if there was a writer "Karl Schwedhelm" on board. Thanks anyway for the tip.
best regards,
eddy

Honestly, I am out of familiar territory on this one - I'm sure you are well aware  Smiley Translation at that link, earlier, says he was in WW2 so I just assumed a lot. Sue
